This week we'd like to share an article from the NME about the impact of Roland products in the music industry.
On April 1st Roland founder Ikutaro Kakehashi passed away aged 87, leaving a legacy of countless products, from electric pianos to synthesizers, from drum machines to sample pads to name but a few.
Roland products were revolutionary and soon became the industry standard since the brand was established in the early '70s. Today's article focuses on one of the most legendary devices in the Roland range, the TR-808 drum machine. It came out in 1980 and as the author Jamie Milton explains, it wasn't until the late '80s early '90s that the drum machine started making a constant appearance in recording studios around the world, becoming a go-to device for songwriters, rappers and producers.
The author has compiled a list of the top 10 most iconic songs that feature the use of the TR-808, so if you would like to hear it in action, click here and check it out!
If you have any songs to add to his list, give us a shout, we'd love to add them to this collection!
